FRIDAY, NOV. 26, 2010 - HEAVY METAL FISHING, WHAT IS IT?
Longtime Lake Anna Guide, C.C. McCotter, coined the phrase "Heavy Metal Fishing" on Lake Anna as it refers to using Vibrating Metal Blade Baits and Spoon Type Lures. To further elaborate, Vibrating Metal Blade Baits include the types of lures such as the old school Silver Buddy, Cicadas, Sonar Flash and Riverside Rippers just to name a few. Spoon Type lures have been around for years and include Hopkins Spoons, Crippled Herring Spoons, and Kastmaster Spoons to name a few in this category. The new types of Vibrating Metal Blade Baits and Spoons that are currently producing phenomenal catches on Lake Anna are pictured above. Krazy Blades, (pictured at left above) are a Vibrating Metal Blade Bait that comes in vast array of color patterns. The Toothache Minnow and Toothache Shad Spoons are pictured at the above right and complete the list of the specific Heavy Metal Lures that are currently no longer a secret on the lake now. What makes these lures so effective? The versatility of multiple presentation tactics is the key. Not only can you vertically jig these lures using the traditional "yo-yo" or up and down type method, you can also cast and retrieve them as well with great results. Varying your retrieval speed is a key when employing this technique. Lake Anna Guide, Chris Craft, has caught both Bass and Stripers casting The Toothache Spoon since he started fishing with them. The other key to these ultra effective lures is that you can catch any species of Gamefish with them. We have anglers such as Longtime Lake Anna Fishermen Tommy Dillard, Delma Armstrong, and Jimmy Rose that can't wait for the cold weather so they can go "Jigging" for White Perch, Stripers Crappie, Catfish and Bass. That's the beauty of Heavy Metal Fishing in that putting that piece of metal in front of schooling fish is a tactic that is effective for anglers of all skill levels. We invite you to experience Heavy Metal Fishing on Lake Anna at its best over the cold weather months and we will keep you posted on the results that this highly effective tactic and technique continues to produce.
