Potomac River - April 7, 2007

The Potomac River Bass Series made its debut on a frigid, snowy morning with 26 hearty teams braving the elements. As the wind increased throughout the day, anglers withstood the conditions and hammered the bass!! When the exciting weigh-in ended there were four hefty bags of fish over 20 pounds that were brought to the scales. Special thanks to those tough anglers that came out on this cold, nasty day. That is the true beauty of fishing in that the big fish bit like crazy and the day was highlighted by a beautiful 8.14 pound bass!!

Congratulations to Willie Gordon and Mike Branham for their victory with a beautiful 24.44 pound catch that was anchored by a 6.85 pound hawg!! The $1,150.00 1st place payday was a nice way to start the season as Willie and Mike have been on a roll lately and they continued their fish catching ways in a big way. Willie and Mike are off to a great start as they compete for The ''Springfield Toyota Team of the Year" honors and the $1,500.00 prize that goes to the team finishing in first place based on total weight for the 10 event regular season. Way to go Mike and Willie.

Second place went to the team of Timmy Jones and Van Debenard with a weight of 23.65 pounds on this cold April day. Van and Timmy took home $655.00 for their efforts and also continued their own hot streak of fish catching excellence. Gary Schembs and Karl Mastrup finished third with 23.17 pounds and had the catch of a lifetime with a whopping 8.14 pound bass!! Gary has put up a number that will be tough to beat as he has set the bar high for the "Springfield Toyota Season Lunker Award" and the $1,000.00 prize that goes to the team that catches the single heaviest bass during the 10 event regular season. Gary and Karl took home $660.00 for their big fish and 3rd place finish. Larry Strong and Mike Maroney finished in fourth place with a hefty 20.76 pound catch illustrating just that fishing hard on a tough day can pay off nicely. Larry and Alan won $300.00 for their great effort. Rounding out the Top five were Terry Whisenhunt and Sidney Mullins with a hard earned 11.64 pound catch that was worth $225.00. Way to go anglers!!!
